✎ Basic Info

 Name Étoile Petit Joubert

 Gender  ♀

 Age 19

☆ Height|Weight 160cm | 50kg

 Species Kemonomimi

 Region Draelora | Starlight City

 Occupation
Genius Merchant/Tradeswoman
Specializes in stocking all sorts of necessary goods and 'hot' items. Her identity however, is unknown to her workers. There are rumors throughout the marketplace of her being very young. She holds pop-up stalls in various cities featuring specialty goods from other ones in order to generate enough buzz to create official shops in the busiest locations. She plans to eventually create her own fashion business and is currently investing in the most unique, beautiful fabrics across Prismatica, as well as talented workers excelling in the fields of textiles and tailoring.
A cheeky scammer/thief
When she is not doing her usual job, Étoile enjoys disguising herself to party up with adventurers, pretending to be meek. This is all to take any rare drops. She will however leave some gold behind in compensation but it doesn't negate the fact that she took off with their loot! Collecting rare items - especially cursed ones, is her hobby. She will sometimes go trading or gambling for them at Bloodmoon Bazaar.. which usually ends up in a huge commotion caused by her, where she will swiftly steal the item through all the fuss, whistle for her mount and ride off.
Enchanter
Étoile's penchant for collecting rare items inspired her to take up enchanting in her spare time. Due to her lucky nature, her enchantments are often a success. She does not offer these services to anyone exclusively, but will sell these items for a scary price if she doesn't need them.

 ☪ History

The Twin Sisters

 19 years ago
under a starry night sky
a pair of twins were born to a merchant couple journeying through the Silent Isle.

 Étoile and her older twin sister, Jeanne, grew up in Starlight City, Draelora. Their parents decided to settle down there after having the kids and led a humble shop selling general goods. Their childhood involved helping out their parents at the store, where Étoile garnered an acute interest in the trade.

Since the age of 5, every morning before it was even dawn, she and Jeanne would go to the marketplace and the city stores to see what held good value, what was trending, and last of all, what everyone needed yet didn't have. She had a thorough memory and would imagine the prices of various things and how they would shift in time, as well as the various types of people that came to and fro. It was during this time in her life where she naturally fine tuned her ability Appraisal to identify the quality, value and stats of items without a second thought, as well as the stats of people..

Three years later, the shopping district had become visibly tense. The tension built up over the years, due to an extremely successful yet corrupt merchant named Avilia Baumeister who had been secretly undermining the marketplace of its local merchants and using fear and violence to control the rest. No one could stand against her and her family, including Étoile's parents and their humble store sitting on the edge of the district. Étoile was just a kid, but she didn't want to back down and tried her best to increase the store's revenue and customers. She went above and beyond - enough to catch Avilia's attention, but the latter was all too powerful. Étoile's efforts weren't enough to counter Avilia's lifetime's worth of success, and it only made things harder for her family and community. Day after day thugs were sent by Avilia to threaten and destroy their neighbors stores and homes, even beating them up, child or adult.

They never touched
 Étoile's family as Avilia calculatingly planned for this situation to make them be hated by their own friends and neighbors. They were scorned by their own community and no one wanted to have anything to do with them. The scorn and disdain grew with the constant violence and abuse committed by Avilia's lackeys. Everyone thought that if they just had nothing to do with the Joubert family, they would be safe.. but they weren't and it led them to believe that things would be better if the Joubert family just died.

The community banded together with this idea in mind and many volunteered for the cause.

That day they finally had a proper meal, eating dinner with food that was given to them by a neighbor who admitted that she felt sorry that they were treated as outcasts and how hard it must have been to find food when no one wanted to be involved with them. Jeanne happily watched
Étoile eat first as she also prepared to take a bite when she realized that after everyone ate some of their food, they dropped to the ground unconscious. As soon as that happened she heard the sound of people scuffling and talking outside their windows and realized this was all planned. She pretended to also fall unconscious. As she lay on the floor, shouting could be heard outside and the front door was knocked down. She heard what sounded to be their leader mutter about how her family deserved what was coming to them and all their pent up hatred for being treated like trash because of them. After the Joubert's were confirmed to be unconscious the volunteers poured oil over their bodies before dousing the rest of the house inside and outside. They then lit the house on fire, satisfied after watching it spread and let the fire do the rest of the job.

Étoile woke up to the sounds of her name being yelled desperately. As she tried hard to open her eyes, there was the sight of Jeanne crying above her. There was an intense smell of smoke and as she was regaining consciousness she saw the house was on fire. She could hardly move or talk when Jeanne sobbed that their parents were still not waking up. It seems like the food they ate had a paralyzing effect and although their mother was eventually able to open her eyes she couldn't move her body.

The front entrance was blocked by the blaze and fallen pieces of wood, but Jeanne tried to think of what she could do and smashed open a window thinking of pulling everyone through it. Her mother knew however, that there wasn't enough time for Jeanne to carry Étoile, her father and herself one by one, so she tried her hardest to move her mouth in order to say the words, "Protect Étoile". Jeanne shook her head and shouted no but her mother just smiled. The fire was quickly closing in so Jeanne hastily carried Étoile wrapped in a towel and went through the window while pulling her out of it. By the time she got back in, a piece of blazing wood fell on her father and his body quickly went on fire from the oil on him. Jeanne's mother slowly tried to move her hand towards his before looking at Jeanne and saying "I love you" as the fire spread from his hand to hers, covering her entire body.

It finally sunk in that Jeanne's world was falling apart now that her parents were dying and there was nothing she could do about it. The sound of the violent fire became inaudible as she stared wide eyed and confused repeating her mother's and the volunteer's words from this night over and over in her head
, overcoming her with emotions. Her eyes were burning, sweat and tears was running down her face and she could hardly breathe whence a little sound which became a voice came through to her, it was Étoile's voice that brought her back to reality.

Jeanne managed to return to Étoile who struggled to even move her fingers, she hugged her, looked at her as unaffected as she could and told her, "from now on it's just the two of us, I will always protect you my little sister". She carried her as far as she could in the night, in order to hide from everyone else in town that tried to kill them. But things weren't over yet, as the poison that Étoile had consumed had begun to have additional effects on her body. Jeanne went to the only place she could think of that would have a cure and was not affected by Avilia's control - The Bloodmoon Bazaar. Walking there whilst carrying Étoile was no easy feat, her feet were bloody and cut up and she was with no sleep or rest in fear of being caught on the way. In the bazaar she asked for directions to the nearest doctors but when she cried for help to cure her sister no one wanted to listen to children that looked like beggars that couldn't pay for their services.
After every doctor denied them a figure in an alleyway called out to Jeanne, saying she will help them. Jeanne looked around and cautiously carried Étoile with her towards the figure, if there was a single hope that Étoile would be saved, she would take it no matter the risks. The hooded woman provoked Jeanne, "There is no way anyone in their right mind over here would help you if you can't even afford to pay for their services or give something of equal monetary value," snickering at Jeanne's efforts. "What's it to you? I don't care," Jeanne said, "We have just lost everything we ever had, I can't afford to lose my sister by giving up after being denied several times, there is no way I will give up on her life by not putting myself on the line. I begged because I am severely desperate, there is nothing else I can do..!" The woman smiled. "I like the look in your eyes.. your determination and .. stamina. How about this? You make a deal with me. I've been looking for a young child like yourself with no background to work under me.. but.. it means you will have to leave your sister. Of course, I will trade something of equal value for your life.. let's say a cure and I will put her in someone's care. You will never be able to meet her or contact her again however."

This woman just spelled trouble, Jeanne knew that of course.. yet it was an offer she couldn't refuse if it meant Étoile would be cured.. and ..  have a home. But how could she trust her words? What if the home she promised Étoile wasn't safe as well? There were so many dire consequences if this shady woman's words weren't true.

"I don't trust you, how do I know you're not lying to me, a homeless child, knowing I have nothing else and you - with all the means to make those words believable?"
The hooded woman sighed but turned ecstatic at how smart Jeanne was, she had a dark aura oozing around her with every hint of her being screaming danger, yet there was a gap in her personality, an eccentric character.
"Oh come on now, I'm really starting to like you now," she grinned, "I wasn't going to give this to anyone.. but I guess if I can have you it will be a fair trade off..!" The woman reached into her cloak and brought out a special coin she had never seen before, with a goddess embellished on it. "This is Lady Fortuna, though.. this will only work if your sister over there has an extremely high affinity for it but if she does, it will bind to her and make her quite the lucky person. I'm telling you now, this is seriously a very rare item, I was going to fetch a good price for it but what can I say.. I really want you."

Lucky?.. Jeanne thought, "Is it .. really safe?"

"Well, I think so, I mean, I'm not too sure about the details but I'm serious when I say it's an extreeemely rare item!! Though umm.." The woman muttered, "About the high affinity thing let's just say the coin chooses who it binds to so let's not get caught up on the details if it doesn't work okay I probably can't sell it anyways since the chance of it working is really low!!!!" The woman excitedly clapped her hands whilst smiling pervertedly, just what happened to that scary person from a moment ago with such confidence and a huge ego? Jeanne asked herself, perplexed as can be but it seemed the woman was serious about the coin.

"There's one thing I don't get though, why can't you take the both of us? We're twins, we're a set." Jeanne's furrowed brows seemed to be digging deeper and deeper as she stared at this strange woman with such a gap personality. The woman forgot that she was watching Jeanne's brows until she was cross-eyed and recalled back to their conversation, "She looks weak though, can't be helped~" the woman shrugged.

"She may be weaker than me, but she was poisoned. That's not all.. she's.. she's smart. Really smart. A genius. She's going to be the greatest merchant in Starlight City in the near future. I'm not just talking a child's dream.. if you saw her in action you would know.." The woman's smile dissipated and she went back to her seriousness, "Well okay, I'll take her in - however, I still want you two to be separated because of the line of work you'll be in AND AS SUCH!!" The woman smiled wildly again, "I'll throw in a forget-about-my-sister memory loss potion as well as the cure!! I'm a genius too right? Hohohohohoho!!!!" the woman threw her head back in laughter whilst Jeanne thought about it carefully. If only she could take away the bad memories too.. but would Étoile really want to forget about their parents? .. Good or bad? That wasn't up to her to decide.
"You have a deal"
Jeanne reached out her hand and the woman reached out hers before whisking Jeanne into her arms as the girl had fallen unconscious.

✧ SKILLS

Passive

Lady Fortuna: A person blessed by the goddesses with luck and fortune.
Appraisal: The ability to detect the stats, value, and skills about anything/anyone. People are harder to determine rather than items and monsters.

Active

{General}
Seal: Seals an item so that it cannot be used {i.e. skillbooks, weapons, clothing}
Can also be used to seal someone's skills for a certain period of time depending on how powerful they are.
{Cooldown: 24 hours}.

{Enchanting}
All enchantments have a chance of failure and in the worst case, destroying the item {5% chance}.
Appraisal allows Étoile to know the limits of an item's stats which is paramount in repeating coin flip for the best stats possible.

Coin flip:

This skill can be used generally to overcome the odds in situations or for quick, temporary enhancements/skills on the go, but in particular for serious, permanent enchantments, this is how it is used.

{WEAPONS}
Étoile flips a coin {up to 3} whilst holding a weapon to give her a random skillset/skill whilst using it.
Coins landing on heads will provide strong skills whilst tails will be either extremely powerful or extremely useless with a higher chance of being the latter. These skills will stay allocated to the specific weapon until she flips for a new skillset.
{Cooldown: 2 hours, each consecutive try after will be double the time of the last flip.}

{WEARABLES}

Étoile flips a coin for a set number of random stats for a piece of clothing/armor. Bonus stats can be attained with a success, OR more than one coin can be used for high tier items.
Once the number of available stats are set, she coin flips for the most powerful outcome of these stats.
{Cooldown: 1 hour, each consecutive try will be double the time of the last roll.}

Sacrifice: In the case of an item being destroyed, something of equal value can be sacrificed in its stead to restore the destroyed item.

⟡ Voice

⟡ Additional Info

☆ Étoile's mind is always overflowing with thoughts, ideas and imaginations..
Her tongue hangs out when she is in thought.

☆ When people are curious of her items and reach for them she will instinctively lightly hit their hand and say "No touchy" while hugging it it closely to her.

☆ Her disguises aren't that great, yet somehow people get fooled by them quite easily. It may have to do with the array oddities that she carries with her.
